To celebrate QuakeCon’s 20th anniversary and 20 years of Quake, we’re pleased to announce this year’s official tournaments will be held August 4-7, 2016 in Dallas, TX in the Wedgwood Ballroom at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.
Players from around the globe will once again come together to compete for their share of $25,000 cash in the QUAKEWORLD 2on2 Team Deathmatch Open and the Quake Live masters will be invited back to battle for the 2016 title in the QUAKE LIVE Duel Masters Championship.

QuakeWorld 2on2 TDM Open:
The QUAKEWORLD 2on2 TDM Open will feature a competition for up to thirty-two (32) two-player teams battling it out in a double elimination bracket and best-of-three games format. Teams who come out on top will share prizes of $25,000, including $12,000 for the team of champions.
To register for the QUAKEWORLD 2on2 TDM Open, interested competitors can visit the QuakeCon tournament area on-site in the Wedgwood Foyer from 10:00am to 6:00pm CDT on Thursday August 4th for participation availability.
Quake Love Duel Masters Championship:
The QUAKE LIVE Duel Masters Championship will feature known professionals and top QUAKE LIVE competitors in an exclusive tournament. Up to thirty-two (32) of the world's best QUAKE LIVE players, hand selected by tournament staff from the open online registration, will face-off in the 1 vs. 1 duel for $25,000 in a double elimination bracket, with each match played in a best-of-five-games format. With two competitors remaining, thousands will gather to watch as these two best-of-the-best survivors go head-to-head in a single elimination, best-of-five-games throw-down with a $12,000 check written to the champion.

According to Guru 3D. How long will that last? Beth/id says ~13 hours so I'd say ~6-8 (based on previous games I've played faster then what was said by developers/publishers). There's not much test but lots of nice photos so check out Guru 3D!
I like new map! To quote the author in hos post from Func_Msgboard:
I like cheesy horror movies of 80th. You know the kind - every ancient burial ground has a house right in the middle, every laboratory works on creating zombie virus, every cemetery is cursed and so on. As an ode to those movies I wanted to make a quake episode based on typical stories.
This is third map of Root of all evil. Why not start from first? Well... I have no good reason 8) "Base" setting seemed easier to do (man, how I was mistaken). But wait, there's more! I had to break map in two, because cave pieces immediately ate up vertex budget and lightmap related errors appeared.
Good thing is most of brushwork is done for second part so hopefully it won't take too long to finish it.
Map is easily broken - strategic ramps everywhere for speedrun purposes, but no tricks required to finish the level.
No backspawning this time 8) experimented with new fight scenarios.
As usual, lots of secrets. 18 to be precise. And that is after getting rid of most boring ones.

Quake mapper PulSar posts on Func_Msgboard that he has redone his QuakeJam map. He says it contains at least one room from every Episode 4 map & has lots of spawns and ambushes. There's several demo's posted on Func_Msgboard to watch too!
Hey, over at Func_Msgboard there's a new Shambler model for the good old classic, Quake. It sure is purty and if you're a Quake fan I'm not seeing a reason to not have a higher poly model for that classic monster! From what I've read, it even works with WinQuake!
