Warsow 2.0 Released

Warsow, the Qfusion (Quake GPL engine) powered free shooter, released it's 2.0 version. It's got over 150 new features after a year and a half of tests & improvements. Several improvements to note:

  • Most assets now under Creative Commons Share Alike 4.0 License, so no more worries about most of the assets being used in custom content. 
  • Many graphical effects revamped. 
  • Spawn code improved so that in a duel you now spawn as far away as possible from the other player on respawn.

You can download the latest version over at moddb.com.  It comes in Windows, Linux or Mac flavors.  Yum.

Doom 3 BFG Hi Def 2.7 Released

In this version of D3BFG HiDef, all the textures have been redone in some fashion, FFMpeg 2.9 support and soft shadows for Intel drivers.
If you have Doom 3 BFG then this mod makes it look oh-so-much prettier, it's to good to pass up! You can read the full change log here and download it over at moddb.com.

Doom 3 BFG Hi Def is a graphics and feature enhancement mod for Doom 3 BFG only.  It will not work on the origional Doom 3.

Bladeghost's Phantasm's mod to be a Standalone Game

In a video released yesterday Bladeghost announced he's remaking his Phantasm mods as standalone and remastered. There's no info except the teaser trailer (below). So stay tuned to his moddb page!

Doom 3 BFG Hi-Def 2.6 Released

It includes more visual tweaks to make your D3 BFG look prettier then it's older sister, Doom 3! You need the 2.5 version first, which you can download the whole 2.5 or the 2.4-2.5 update. Then get the 2.6 patch.

Features of note are muzzle and fireball shadows, increased polycount on terrain models, and ROE textures.

The new version is out. Compared to stock Doom 3 (not BFG or BFG compatible) it supports:

  • 64bit port
  • SDL for low level OS support, OpenGL and input handling
  • OpenAL for audio output, all OS specific audio backends are gone
  • OpenAL EFX for EAX reverb effects (read: EAX on all platforms)
  • Better support for widescreen (and arbitrary display resolutions)
  • A portable build system based on CMake
  • (Cross-)compilation with mingw-w64

No changelog for the 1.4.0 version vs the previous one.

Version 2.4 of High Def Doom 3 BFG will features higher resolution terrain. Terrain isn't used much in Doom 3 except for some outside visuals, but with a “high-def” mod you'd expect to see more detail everywhere, right?

Doom 3 BFG Ultimate

Doom 3 BFG Ultimate is a modification for the Doom 3 BFG Edition with better visuals, high resolution textures, high poly models, new effects and lightning, challanging enemies (they move faster, are more agile and dodge a lot) and modified weapons with more credible ammocount, recoil, firerates, bullet velocity and muzzleflash lightning.

It features:

  • better texture resolutions, higher polycount for models - merged some texture/model packs, see credits
  • better effects by phrozo (improved weapon effect lightning, decals, smoke) - fixed some bugs, added improvements and made them work with BFG
  • improved AI by strelok (monsters move faster, dodge more, react and attack more effective) - made them work with BFG
  • Weapon improvements (semi fire for pistol and shotguns, weaponchange now interrupts reload animation, rebalanced damage, firerates and clipsize for some weapons, dry-fire for kickass minigun when out of ammo - try it ;)
  • workaround to simulate muzzleflash lightning (bullet lightning)
  • reduced the player walking and crouch speed a bit and adjusted the head bob
  • fixed some missing sound bugs from the main game
